- Position: full sun or partial shade
- Soil: neutral to slightly-acid, moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soil
- Rate of growth: average
- Hardiness: borderline hardy (may need winter protection)
Throughout the warmer months of the year, the foliage of this handsome evergreen shrub is a dazzling mix of green, creamy yellow, red and copper, but as the temperatures drop, the colour intensifies and turns a deep maroon-purple. It creates a bold splash of colour in the border, or could be used as a stand-alone specimen, but because it is relatively compact, it also does really well in a large(ish) pot.
- Garden care: In spring, lightly trim any branches that spoil the symmetry of the plant. Afterwards apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted leaf mould or composted pine needles around the base of the plant. In colder regions, protect from hard frosts, or keep it in a pot and move it to a sheltered spot when the temperatures dip.
| Option | 2 litre pot |
